I grew up on Cape Breton Island in a rural community of 27 people. That's right, 27.
When I was young, a regular pastime was visiting neighbours with my parents. Being shy, I would sit and listen, participating only in my observation. I think my love for people's faces and the details of their environments arose from this activity.

Naturally, when I picked up a camera, it was portraiture that became my niche.

I attended Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, attaining a Bachelor of Arts in Geography. Upon graduation, and at a crossroads, I followed my heart to Victoria, British Columbia where I have lived happily since October, 2000. I graduated from the Professional Photography Program and the Advanced Visual Communications Program at the Western Academy of Photography, winning the award for Best Portrait, and Best Overall Student. Published by Photolife Magazine in March 2007, my image 'The Captain' won a prize in the portrait category of the Image International Contest.
